The West Auckland Resource Centre is a Charitable Trust managed by five trustees and a steering committee. The Centre is manned by part time volunteers, a Coordinator on Wednesday and a volunteer on Saturday during the school term. We are only funded by donations collected for resources taken to cover our operating expenses.
Our dedicated team of volunteers pride themselves on the recovery of all types of recyclable resources that would otherwise be destined for the landfill. We collect these waste materials upon availability from local manufacturers and businesses for art and craft activities.
The West Auckland Resource Centre was initially set up by an enthusiastic group of like-minded people concerned at the large amount of valuable materials being dumped, when they could be recycled and used by community organisations to support the continuing education of children and adults. Since its humble beginnings in 1977 the Centre has been housed in various buildings and survived the numerous shifts around the local area to its current site in Seabrook Avenue, New Lynn, Auckland, New Zealand.
As our current site is not permanent, we are always on the lookout for another premises that will enable us to expand our operation. Our ultimate goal is to operate a recycling facility that will house bulk storage, sorting and distribution, a venue for educational workshops and an information exchange on the creative uses of recycled materials.
